Welcome! I’m Catherine. For me, it's important to stretch my mind, travel far, and always have a stash of dark chocolate.

Netflix | Little Gems

Netflix | Little Gems (shows you might have missed) The number of options on Netflix can be extremely daunting. Jordan and I go through phases where we are watching a lot of movies, but lately we've been using Netflix to watch television shows. We really enjoy marathoning a show or even re-watching an entire series like we've done with Gilmore Girls a few times. :-) If you've already finished such great television shows as Friends, Gilmore Girls, How I Met Your Mother, Parenthood, House Of Cards, and Friday Night Lights, here are a few shows you might have missed!

Call The Midwife | Currently in its fourth season, this BBC/PBS show follows several young midwives and nuns in the 1950s from the East End of London navigating their way through baby deliveries, love, loss and friendship. You'll laugh and cry. It's a beautiful show.

Freaks and Geeks | If you haven't watched Freaks and Geeks yet, you're almost certainly aware of most (if not all) of the main cast (James Franco, Busy Philipps, Jason Segal, Seth Rogan). Judd Apatow, and maybe more accurately his casting agent, scored with this ensemble. This coming-of-age dramedy centers around a sister/brother duo and their friend groups while they deal with the travails of high school. Shenanigans!

Top of The Lake | In high school, I went through a horror/scary movie phase: The Ring, The Others etc. I don't really like watching anything scary now (Age has made me jumpy? Haha!), but I do enjoy suspense stories. Top of The Lake is a New Zealand/BBC television miniseries that aired on the Sundance channel in the US in 2013. It was recently announced that it would return for another season, which I think is directly related to its success. Elizabeth Moss (of Mad Men fame) plays Det. Robin Griffin, a Sydney police inspector, who returns home to New Zealand to visit her mother who has cancer and gets sucked into a mysterious case of the disappearance of a pregnant teenager.

Rectify | I am so thankful Netflix picked up current running television shows for those of us who don't have cable. I began watching Rectify last summer. It is the story of Daniel Holden who at 16 years-old was convicted of the murder of his 16-year-old girlfriend. "After spending 19 years on death row, new DNA evidence vacates his original trial, and he returns to his hometown: Paulie, Georgia (source)." It is a slow burn show and even after two seasons, you still don't exactly know what really happened the night of the murder. It's gripping.

Land Girls | I'm only a few episodes into Land Girls, but so far I really enjoy it. I love BBC shows and their short seasons. If you like Call the Midwife or Downton Abbey, you'll like Land Girls, which was actually the BBCs first period drama. During WWI and WWII in Britain, American, and Australia there was a call for women to join the Land Army to work in agriculture, replacing all of the men who were fighting. The show follows a group of women who went to work on the land of a manor.

What shows are you watching on Netflix? I am interested in checking out Bloodline, Penny Dreadful, and watching a bit more of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
