Welcome! I’m Catherine. For me, it's important to stretch my mind, travel far, and always have a stash of dark chocolate.

The Other Jersey Shore

_DSC0018 I wonder sometimes how I'll feel, leaving Lake Michigan behind when we move. It's not as if I see it everyday, but knowing the water is there comforts me somehow. Our beautiful blue expanse reaches out toward the horizon till it touch Michigan and Wisconsin; there isn't another body of water like it.

I've spent much more time at the Chicago beaches and surrounding dunes more than any particular ocean, so each time we have the opportunity to visit the sea, I don't like to turn it down.

Jordan and I took a couple of days off from venturing into NYC to spend time with my aunt, uncle, and one of my cousins. They live about 40 minutes from the Jersey Shore. My aunt graciously offered to spend an afternoon showing us Spring Lake, a quaint, beautiful town along the Jersey Shore. Spring Lake is as far away from MTV's vision of the Shore as you can get. The houses dotted along the beach all have a similar New England cottage vibe, but with unique personalities. Renting one for a week would be so fun!

A storm loomed off in the distance, casting a beautiful morning fog that stretched across the beach. None of us had experienced an ocean view like that before! The water was cool, but still inviting, with a few brave souls surfing and swimming. After walking up and down the boardwalk, taking in the scenery, we finally gained enough courage to dip our toes in the water.

"But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” (John 4:14)

^ Seriously, who gets to live in these kind of houses on the regular?!

^ This boardwalk was restored after Hurricane Sandy whipped through, destroying everything in its path.

^  Spring Lake has the cutest little shops and restaurants. We could have spent a whole day just walking into each little store, exploring them fully.
