Welcome! I’m Catherine. For me, it's important to stretch my mind, travel far, and always have a stash of dark chocolate.

Weekend Links / / A Sufjangiving

Sufjan Stevens Ryman Nashville I was playing solo for most of the week while Jordan was in Dallas for work. I occupied my time by tackling some looming blog projects and prepping for the month ahead. I also watched a lot of Jane the Virgin.

Jordan's flight arrived just in time for him and I to cash in on one of our birthday presents: tickets to Sufjan Stevens' concert at the Ryman Auditorium!! Sufjan holds a special place in my heart ever since I attended his concert at the Metro in fall of 2005. I went spontaneously with a friend without hearing his music (does that happen anymore with streaming services?) and fell in love. All of college I was obsessed with the album, Come on Feel the Illinoise! It's still one of my favorite albums of all time.

Onto the Links!

Vegan Gluten-free Pumpkin Pie / / For Thanksgiving last year I scooped out the pie portion of my dad's pumpkin pie and ate it without the crust. This year I wanted to bake my own, but I knew I would need to practice before presenting it on the Big Day to my family. I brought this to work for our holiday set and it was a big hit! My coconut oil crust skills need perfecting, but I have a few more weeks!

Peak District in England / / I really wanted to venture to Jane Austen land when Jordan and I were in England a few years ago, but we didn't quite have the time. Bridget's photos literally have me wanting to pack up my things and get on the next available flight. So picturesque! Jordan, let's go!

A Grateful Heart While Navigating Grief / / Kelly beautifully shared a rather hard aspect of her families story. Navigating mental illness as a sibling often goes unspoken. Thank you Kelly for being so vulnerable.

"I felt guilty that when looking back on her life and our relationship I didn’t have many nice things to say. That was the hardest. When one dies people are filled with their memories and moments of the good times, but what about if it’s someone who battled their demons and lost? Leaving those behind with scars and hurt beyond repair? Does it make you a bad person?"

21 Amazing Salads / / I have a love-hate relationship with salads. I love to eat them, but I hate actually making them. Jordan and I have a hard time finishing an entire head of lettuce before it beings to wilt, but I think our mistake is having the salad as a side instead of as a main meal. The lentil, spinach and pomegranate salad and turmeric & honey roasted chickpea salad are screaming my name!

Making $3 Lipstick Last All Day / / BreAnna's blog has quickly become my go-to for budget friendly tips on grocery shopping and style. I've heard of people using baby powder for dry shampoo but never as a trick to keep your lipstick on throughout your day!

Happy Weekend, all!
