After a week in Southern California it was time for Jordan and I to make our way North along the Pacific Coast Highway. We gave ourselves two days/one night to reach San Jose, where we would spend a few days visiting friends. In hindsight, spending one more night on the road would have given us more freedom to stop and explore along the way. We still managed to see a lot with our time constraints and now we have one more reason to drive the Pacific Coast Highway again!
Our day one goal was to reach San Luis Obispo, which is a college town three-and-a-half hours from Los Angeles. Of course we didn't drive without stopping! We ate lunch in the quaint beach town, Summerland, a few miles north of Malibu.
Driving the Pacific Coast Highway should be on everyone's bucket list. California's climate and terrain is extremely vast and by driving the coast you will experience some of the most majestic views of the Continental United States! Jordan and I began our day early. When we passed through Malibu again, we stopped to take more pictures because it's too pretty not too.
Somehow we missed a turn and ended up detouring from the coast into farm land! California has so much agriculture! But it's a different kind of farmland from the midwest, far more hilly. My mother grew up on a dairy farm and the land near her is flat. If we weren't on the move, I would have loved to purchase a crate (or two) of strawberries sold from the fruit stands sprinkled all over.
Eventually, we made our back to the PCH just in time to stop for lunch in Summerland. Our choice to eat in Summerland may have had something to do with our love for the short-lived WB television show of the same name. Did any of you watch it? It starred Lori Loughlin, Ryan Kwanten (from True Blood) and even Zac Ephron.
After lunch we strolled their main street, which had a few clothing boutiques and several high-end antique stores.
